The successful candidate will be a highly motivated network professional who will work as part of a team supporting and developing enterprise services and environments. The role will require working closely with clients at many levels to provide the highest quality technical services, support and project resource. The role requires some out of hours support and incorporates on-call on a rota basis.

The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years commercial experience, demonstrate good troubleshooting abilities and be able to quickly identify issues and potential resolutions or workarounds. They will be responsible for managing their own workload and liaising with other members of the team and organisation where necessary.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
• Support of network and firewall systems and services in a multi-customer managed services environment
• Ensure the availability of customer systems, applications and infrastructure by pro-active maintenance and monitoring
• Implement agreed support procedures
• Provide technical resource and support during service design/transition as directed
• Provide on-call and out-of-hours support as required

Skills
Initiative and ability to learn quickly is far more valuable than vast product experience, however candidates are expected to demonstrate skills and experience in the following areas:

Firewall/Security
• Core Firewall technologies (mandatory)
• Checkpoint platforms to CCSA level
• Checkpoint administration including rulebase, site to site VPN configuration. Ability to troubleshoot Checkpoint related issues in an efficient manner
• Administration of Cisco PIX/ASA appliances

Networking
• Core Networking technologies (mandatory)
• Cisco’s switching (IOS and CATOS) and routing product line to CCNA level
• Experience running a switched network and issues that can occur in this environment
• Understanding of  protocols such as spanning tree (Rapid-PVST and MST), CDP , 802.1q and 802.1q tunnelling
• Routed network administration and an understanding of various routing protocols such as OSPF and EIGRP and router services such as HSRP and VRRP
• Demonstrable understanding of different load balancing methods and concepts. This may include Cisco hardware load balancers such as Cisco CSS11500 series, Cisco 6500 CSM module or Cisco 6500 ACE module.
• Administration of Tipping Point/Checkpoint IPS/IDS devices

Experience
• 2 years commercial experience of 2nd or 3rd line network support, ideally in a managed services environment

Qualifications
• Current professional qualifications as indicated above are desirable
• ITIL Foundation or experience in an ITIL service environment
